Sunday July 1, 2018 (Canada Day)

I was able to go to Adam’s cottage over the weekend, which was great, since the weather was extremely sunny and hot. It’s the perfect weather for swimming in the lake. I had to work on Saturday, so I ended up taking a bus, which took about 3.5 hours, but it was worth it πŸ™‚ I was also very prepared for any mosquito bites, lugging my large citronella candle in my bag, along with my dapis gel and natural bug spray. I arrived around 2:30pm and I was pretty hungry at this point, so Adam picked me up from the bus stop and I bought a veggie hot dog to eat :p

A variety of flowers have been planted in the garden and by the dock, near the lake. I like it when it’s super quiet and all you can hear are the birds, the water, and leaves rustling.

They had two tubes that could float in the water, so Adam and his friend Max, tied one of the tubes to the back of the canoe. Adam and Max did all the paddling, while I lay down in the tube, soaking up the sun and enjoying the ride :p Unfortunately, Neither one of us had our phones with us, but it would have been a pretty awesome photo. We ended up docking in the middle of the lake surrounded by some large rocks. We sat down for a bit to rest, since the guys were pretty tired from paddling me along :p

It was almost time for dinner, so we needed to head back to the cottage. Adam and I decided to make a grilled corn and zucchini salad, with a sun dried tomato sauce. I followed a recipe from the Minimalist Baker here. The sauce was really good, and I would recommend this recipe to anyone, especially for a summer barbecue πŸ™‚ It was light, fresh and flavourful.

Later that evening, Erol and Zi came to stay over night at the cottage, so we waited for them to arrive. I decided to light my citronella candle and to my surprise, and everyone else, it actually warded off at least 70-80% of the bugs by the window/front door, where the candle was placed.

Adam and I woke up around 9:30am? So when I went outside to check on the candle, I thought there were dried flowers in the candle, but nope… they were bugs. I don’t know why they would go into the wax, but they did… and well… here it is… sad and beautiful at the same time. I was shocked because there were a lot in there 😦 The candle is by Gemley Fine Candles and I think they’re great. They also have unscented candles as well.

We went down to the kitchen and I made these amazing vegan pancakes, that were very fluffy and delicious, topped with strawberries, banana slices and maple syrup. I followed the recipe from Genius Kitchen here, but instead of soy milk, I used unsweetened almond milk. Everyone else had some unknown meat with eggs, but I fed some of my pancake to Adam and he loved it πŸ™‚ I only made about 6-7 pancakes? I ate 5 of them and Adam had the rest πŸ™‚

We spent most of the day swimming or lying down on the dock by the water. You can see Erol and Zi in the canoe and Max having a beer while swimming, haha.

I went swimming and found a leaf in the water πŸ™‚ I love looking at leaves in different kinds of light… they are just so beautiful and intricate. I accidentally scraped my knee against a rock while swimming towards the dock 😦 At least I got to feed Duffy a couple of treats. He was afraid to go deep into the water, so I tried to lure him further, but it didn’t really work… he tried. He just looked very cute, but afraid and sad at the same time. Like, just give me the treat woman… don’t make me go in further. I don’t have a photo of Duffy by the lake, but here is a cute photo of him πŸ™‚

I had to go to work early the next morning, so we left around 9:00pm. I may have left out some things, but I have been busy and haven’t been able to blog as soon as I would have liked to! Hope you all had a nice weekend as well.
